The four question types

A worksheet is only as useful as the thinking it forces, so the sheets here come in four shapes that move from producing an answer to checking one.

Straight recall
The plain version: the product is left blank and the child supplies it. The right place to start.
Missing number
A multiplier is left blank instead, so the child divides without ever being told to.
Mixed practice
Both shapes shuffled together, so nothing can be answered on autopilot.
True or false
A claim that is sometimes wrong. Spotting a wrong answer is a different skill from producing a right one.

How to use these worksheets

Print the sheet, then keep the answer key for yourself or let the child mark their own work. Marking exercises are where most of the learning happens, so pair the two pages rather than handing over only the questions.

  • Start with one table. A single table gives the repetition that builds fluency.
  • Move to missing number next. Blank a multiplier and the child divides without being told to.
  • Finish with mixed. Shuffled facts from several tables are the real test of recall.
  • Mark it straight away. A mistake corrected an hour later has already been learnt wrong.
  • Come back to the same sheet. Repeating it in a fortnight shows progress better than a new one does.
